arrrrrrrrrrrrgh

That’s the only thing I’m feeling today. Is arrrgh.
I just want the world to go back to normal.

And I never want to hear the phrases “mask up” “in these difficult times” “flatten the curve” “new normal” “stay the eff at home” ever again. Also if some filmmaker 20 years from now decides to make some Oscar-bait movie about the coronavirus pandemic you couldn’t PAY me to watch it. I never want to think about or relive any of this again.

So anyway. Friday I wrote that blog post about progress on my disney trip outfits and stuff. I mentioned that I was going to do a big hunt for those missing pattern pieces for the hat because I did NOT want to have to buy another copy.

Well guess what, like 5 minutes after I posted that I said fuck it and bought another copy of it on etsy.

Friday night I dedicated to filming some new tiktok content. Dunno why I bother since my account is still hobbled. But I filmed 3 new dressing videos – dapper day Black Widow/regular Black Widow, my Imperial Officer, and Hermione. All things I use my real hair for, since I slept in curlers Thursday night figured I’d make use of it.

Took a few timer photos of my dapper day Black Widow since I didn’t have any pics of it previously.

They’re not great but better than nothing. I really need to get this added to the portfolio page now that I have pics… before I forget everything about the construction.

Saturday I cleaned my sewing room up. Since I’m stuck waiting on stuff for both current projects I decided to start on an organizational project – I bought 100 cardboard rectangles to use as mini “bolts” to wrap my scrap fabric pieces around. They’re all just kinda folded into the bins and it’s a mess and I wanted to get it a little more organized.

So far I’ve done my green, purple and print bins. Those were the easiest to start with. I’m pretty happy with it so far. Will make it easier to find stuff.

AFter I finished the purple bin, I was going to go put it back in its place on the shelf when I noticed… some pattern pieces stuck between the wall and the shelf. GUESS WHAT PATTERN PIECES THEY WERE.

If you guessed the missing hat pieces, you are correct! I NEVER would have found them if I hadn’t pulled that bin out. So it’s frustrating that I already have another copy of the pattern on the way… but at least I found these and Sunday I could start on the hat again.

So yeah Sunday I mostly worked on the hat off and on. I ended up having to start over – thankfully I still had enough fabric to do that. I’d tried to guess the head opening on the original one using the other hat from the pattern (“View C” when I was making “View D”) and it was all wrong. So I started over.

I got the base of the hat re-cut, assembled, millinery wire and binding sewn on the edge, upper part made, binding on, and stitched onto the hat.

What an outfit.
It’s looking a little pirate-ish at the moment. It doesn’t look like that on the envelope. Maybe once I get the bow on it’ll help?

Anyway, I still need to finish the inside of the upper part, and make/add the bow, but that’s all. ALthough towards the end I discovered yet another thing the pattern instructions called for that WAS NOT ON THE ENVELOPE… millinery netting?? Yeah no we’re skipping that.

I haven’t cut the bow yet because I’m not sure what I want the bow to be. I’m not sure I have enough of the spoonflower shirt fabric for it to be that. I need to see.

Also I stabbed myself with a needle while hand-sewing last night and bled on the hat. Haven’t done that in forever. Thankfully it’s on an edge that will be covered up on the inside of the top. I’m hoping my blood sacrifice will mean I actually get to wear this thing this year.

In other news, I downloaded this app called ExploreHere. It shows you historical markers nearby. I have always wanted something like this, sometimes in the car I’ll see a historical marker and want to read it but there’s no time. It’ll be great for road trips. To test it out, Chase and I went driving downtown and midtown Saturday morning. I read out the nearby historical markers which was super interesting.

We also saw some amazing murals/street art:

We stopped at the comic store and I got the black series 40th Anniversary Hoth Leia action figure. Gonna hang it on the wall next to my ANH version.

Also stopped by the hobby store because Chase needed a battery for a servo or something.

I almost had to get this.

Also, the knit star wars top I was going to work on this weekend didn’t happen because my ancillary fabric got lost. Was supposed to arrive friday. Tracking stopped working in GA on wednesday. I requested a replacement today. Supposed to be here Thursday. So I guess that’ll be this weekend’s project. Finish the hat… finish the Dale top… try to figure out what I was going to do for a belt… work on Jean’s TNG uniform again. It feels like Groundhogs Day where I’m working on the same projects from last year…
